US Postal Service could consider truck-side advertising

The US Postal Service floated a trial balloon this week about possibly selling advertising space on the sides of its trucks. Yet the USPS’ Inspector General’s Office acknowledged a number of potential roadblocks in a blog post on the issue.

“The Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act does not permit the Postal Service to undertake new nonpostal products,” reads the blog post. “Would selling advertising on Postal Service property violate the law? And how would selling advertising space affect the Postal Service’s brand?”

The USPS is trying to dig out from a 2009 fiscal year that saw it incur a $3.8 billion net loss.
