The Martin Agency announced this week that it has hired John Norman as its chief creative officer. Currently executive creative director at Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam, he will join Martin in February 2010, reporting to Mike Hughes, president of the firm.
Hughes said that Norman will manage both direct and consumer marketing as part of his new role.
“About 10 years ago, we consolidated our direct marketing and consumer marketing divisions, and John fits the mold to oversee both of those disciplines,” he said.
Each agency account has a creative director. So Norman will oversee creative work for all accounts but not function as creative lead for any of them, Hughes said. He will manage the work of about 70 people.
For Norman’s first year, Hughes will serve as co-chief creative officer. He will retain his role as president, however, during Norman’s first year and afterwards, he said.
