Bacon's to Monitor Blogs

Media data aggregator Bacon's Information next month begins monitoring online news blogs, shorthand for Web logs featuring opinions and comments from individuals or groups.

The Chicago company will introduce new blog content in its MediaSource Premium Research module and track coverage of the personal journals in its Monitoring module. Both modules are designed to help clients gauge the effect of blogs on business decisions and corporate reputations.

The new service targets public relations professionals. MediaSource offers PR executives services such as media contact management, press material distribution and campaign monitoring and evaluation.

“The news cycle for a story sometimes originates from a blog and can, on occasion, find its way into the mainstream media,” Ruth McFarland, Bacon's senior vice president and publisher, said in a statement.

MediaSource will identify the blogs, the messages within them and the frequency with which client-pertinent information is featured in the blogs. Active journalists' blogs will be monitored initially. Bacon's in-house researchers will expand their coverage of additional news-related blogs.

Observer AB, a Stockholm-based media and business intelligence service provider, owns Bacon's.
