Sales grew by 21.3 percent at Specialty Catalog Corp., South Easton, MA, for the first quarter ended April 4, and the company's quarterly loss was cut by more than $180,000.
Sales rose to $13.3 million from $11 million for the year ago period. The rise was attributed to the addition of $1.3 million in net sales from Daxbourne, a leading UK retailer and wholesaler of women's wigs and hairpieces acquired by the company in 1997, as well as a combined net sales increase of $1 million from the company's Paula's Hatbox and Especially Yours catalogs.
The company's net loss for the quarter was $373,053, compared to a net loss for the quarter of $555,936 before an extraordinary charge of $161,567 for the same period a year ago.
“Our core wig and hairpiece business provided solid performance for the quarter as we continue to focus on product development, new marketing programs and other initiatives to increase our market share as well as the size of the overall wig and hairpiece market,” said Steven Bock, company chairman and CEO.
