Apple is reportedly planning to bring its ProMotion display technology to all iPhone 17 models next year. According to a Korean outlet, the entire iPhone 17 lineup will feature LTPO screens, enabling high refresh rates up to 120Hz. LTPO technology allows for granular adjustments to the refresh rate, providing a smoother experience when scrolling, viewing animations, and playing games that support high frame rates.
It also facilitates extremely low refresh rates, down to just 1Hz in some situations, resulting in reduced power consumption and better battery life. An industry source corroborates that all iPhone 17 models expected to launch in 2025 will have LTPO screens. Apple has restricted high refresh rate displays to its iPhone Pro models since 2021, despite other manufacturers offering this functionality more broadly.
This isn’t the first time predictions about the new feature have surfaced.
ProMotion display technology in iPhone 17
Korean outlets and display insider Ross Young have both previously claimed that ProMotion is coming to all iPhone 17 variants.
In addition to the display upgrade, Apple is also expected to introduce its own wi-fi and Bluetooth chip in the iPhone 17 series. This move will allow the company to have greater control over its hardware and reduce costs. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo notes that “With new products in the second half of 2025, including the iPhone 17, Apple plans to use its own Wi-Fi chips, which will be made using TSMC’s N7 process and support the latest Wi-Fi 7 specifications.”
The transition to in-house components is expected to enhance Apple’s ecosystem integration advantages.
The iPhone 17 aims to differentiate itself from other models, including the upcoming fourth-generation iPhone SE, which is anticipated to feature many flagship characteristics like an all-screen design with Face ID, an OLED display, and a 48-megapixel camera. As Apple continues to innovate, these improvements could set a new benchmark for the next generation of smartphones. The iPhone 17 series promises significant enhancements both in display technology and internal components, catering to long-standing consumer demands.
