Cash App users have until Monday to submit a claim to receive a portion of a $15 million settlement. The settlement is the result of a class-action lawsuit that addressed the unauthorized release of millions of users’ personal data. In December 2021, a former Cash App employee downloaded users’ personal information without their knowledge.
This incident exposed the personally identifiable information of 8.2 million current and former Cash App Investing customers. The plaintiffs sued Cash App Investing and its parent company, Block. They alleged that the companies failed to exercise reasonable care in securing and safeguarding consumer information.
Users affected by unauthorized or fraudulent activity on their Cash App accounts between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024, are eligible to file a claim.
Cash App settlement claims end Monday
However, users who have already been reimbursed by Block, Cash App Investing, or a third party do not qualify for the settlement payout.
Claims can be made for out-of-pocket losses, lost time, and transaction losses. For lost time, users can claim up to three hours at a rate of $25 per hour spent dealing with the data breach. For out-of-pocket and transaction losses, claimants must provide evidence that their accounts were affected and that losses have not been reimbursed.
Users should only submit one claim. If they have multiple accounts, they should list all accounts on a single form. This is the final opportunity for affected Cash App users to reclaim their losses due to this significant data breach.
