Haryana security personnel fired tear gas shells and used water cannons to disperse protesting farmers heading towards Delhi at the Shambhu border point on Saturday. The action came after a group of 101 farmers resumed their foot march to Delhi from the Shambhu protest site on the Punjab-Haryana border, reaching the barricades put up by Haryana security personnel. A few farmers were injured in the tear gas shelling and taken to a nearby hospital in ambulances stationed at the protest site.
Earlier, Ambala Deputy Commissioner Parth Gupta and Superintendent of Police S. S. Bhoria engaged in talks with some protesting farmers, trying to convince them to get permission from Delhi to proceed towards the national capital.

Tear gas used against protesting farmers
The farmers were adamant about marching to Delhi and urged the security personnel to allow them to proceed. They are pressing the Centre for various demands, including a legal guarantee of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops.
This was the third attempt by the protesting farmers to march towards the national capital. Farmers had previously made two attempts, on December 6 and December 8, but were stopped by Haryana security personnel.

Under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, the farmers have been demanding a legal guarantee for MSP and urging the Centre to initiate talks with them to address their issues.
The Ambala district administration has already issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) banning the unlawful assembly of five or more people in the district. The Ambala police have stated that the farmer outfits, which are agitating for the legal guarantee of the Minimum Support Price and other demands, can march to Delhi only after getting permission from the national capital administration.
