Apple has announced the release of iOS 18.3, which brings new features and improvements to iPhone users. The update will be available on January 28, 2025. One of the key additions in iOS 18.3 is the Visual Intelligence feature.

This tool is exclusive to the iPhone 16 models. It allows users to add events to their calendar directly from posters or flyers. The feature can also identify plants and animals through the camera and provide real-time information.

The update also brings changes to Notification Summaries.

iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 16 users will see a refreshed look with italicized words and glyphs. Users can now customize which notifications they receive from their Lock Screen.

However, the ability to generate app summaries from News and Entertainment sources will be temporarily unavailable. Apple expects to bring this feature back in a future update. The Calculator app has also received an upgrade.

It now repeats the most recent answer when users tap the equals sign again.

Apple has fixed some minor issues as well. These include the keyboard disappearing when using Siri and music continuing to play on Apple Music even after closing the app. The iOS 18.3 update will be released alongside updates for iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS.

This ensures a consistent experience across all Apple devices. Another important change in iOS 18.3 is that Apple Intelligence is now turned on by default. Users who do not want to use this feature will need to toggle it off in Settings under Apple Intelligence & Siri.

Apple Intelligence requires 7GB of storage space on iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Disabling the feature will restore the storage space. The update also brings some smaller changes.

These include a renamed AE/AF lock toggle on iPhone 16 series phones and a warning when cropping content in a PDF. The Messages app will also make it easier to create personalized emoji with a new Genmoji entry. iOS 18.3 is compatible with iPhones from 2018 onwards, including the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, iPhone Xr, and all later models.

Users can update their devices by going to Settings, then General, and selecting Software Update.
