Sometimes the sheer numbers accompanying the social media universe just astound me. Take Adam Ostrow’s post on Mashable today — which brought a few of those incredible numbers together, including the fact that Facebook now boasts 200 million members; Twitter has swelled to over 1.6 billion Tweets; and YouTube reaches over 100 million viewers each month. Oh, and there have been 1 billion iPhone App downloads. For marketers, this continues to serve as an amazing opportunity — though monetizing and measuring these options continue to confound many brands. Still, in a down economy the potential of social media feels incredibly powerful — and each week brings new tools and techniques to help marketers make sense of this new world. I look forward to seeing the advances that come down the pike over the next six months…and how it can move marketers in an exciting new direction while they continue to focus on measurement and ROI.
