Google’s YouTube Super Bowl Ad Blitz is over and Doritos has taken both 1st and 5th places. Calculated by the highest number of votes from YouTube users, the top spot went to Doritos’ “Free Doritos” spot.
Second place went to the E*Trade singing babies (my personal favorite), followed by CareerBuilder.com, Pepsi Max’s “I’m Good” and Doritos’ “Power of the Crunch.”
The contest had over 2.6 million votes in the three days following the Super Bowl. This is three times more votes than the contest got last year in a week. In the same period there were also over 21 million views of the ads.
According to Google, the day after the Super Bowl, searches for the term “Doritos” rose 4,300% on YouTube from the day before.
E*Trade showed a bit of a different strategy. In the days leading up to the game, E*Trade took over the YouTube homepage and also displayed YouTube sponsored video. Additionally, outtakes of the talking baby Super Bowl ad premiered on YouTube the Friday before the game, driving nearly 2 million views in 24 hours. Searches for “E*Trade” rose 700% between the day before and the day after the Super Bowl.
