IBM Corp. named Virginia Rometty its president and CEO, the technology company said on Oct. 25. Rometty will remain in her post as SVP and group executive for sales, marketing and strategy at IBM until the appointment takes effect on Jan. 1.
Outgoing president and CEO Samuel Palmisano will remain the company’s chairman of the board.
Edward Barbini, VP of external relations at IBM, referred request for comment to a company statement.
“Ginni Rometty has successfully led several of IBM’s most important businesses over the past decade – from the formation of IBM Global Business Services to the build-out of our Growth Markets Unit,” said Palmisano in the statement.
Asked of IBM’s plans to name Rometty’s replacement as group executive for sales, marketing and strategy, Barbini said via email “there’s no timetable for announcing that.”
