TargetSpot debuts mobile audio ad platform

TargetSpot, an Internet radio advertising network, launched a mobile audio ad platform on February 23.

The company will provide audio advertising on iPhone, Android and Blackberry smartphones. TargetSpot will offer geographic, demographic and device-specific targeting of consumers.

TargetSpot partner Slacker Radio is the first company using the technology to serve ads. TargetSpot began working with Slacker in 2008 to sell the company’s audio ad inventory.

Eyal Goldwerger, CEO of TargetSpot, said that recent moves by Google and Apple, as well as research data, show that mobile advertising will grow in coming years.

“If you look at the mobile ad space, it is starting to attract a lot of attention and dollars. There is a lot of focus on search, display and text, everything except one thing: audio,” he said. “When you think about a smart phone, it is a voice-based instrument. What do you do on a phone? You talk and listen to music.”

A Slacker representative cold not be immediately reached for comment.
