Black Health magazine will relaunch as an international publication on November 4.
At its launch three years ago, the bimonthly was distributed to newsstands in the southeast and subscribers nationwide, at a rate base of 125,000. With the relaunch, it will be distributed at newsstands nationwide and in 13 other countries, including England, Nigeria, Brazil and Canada. Its total circulation is expected to be around 230,000, including non-paid copies. Readership is predominantly African-American females age 29 to 59.
“We are very conscious of the health care issues that surround America and African-Americans, and we thought it would be a really good idea to launch on November 4 with an issue that tries to highlight Senator Obama’s healthcare initiative vs. Senator McCain’s,” said Marcus Oaks, publisher of Black Health.
Curtis Circulation will distribute Black Health and is working on extensive in-store promotions for the launch. Black Health also has purchased mailing lists from other key African-American magazines and is sending out 40,000 complimentary copies to targeted US consumers. Radio promotions will be rolled out slowly throughout the month of November.
By the end of 2009, Oaks said he hopes to have 75,000 additional subscribers signed up for Black Health.
