Yahoo is expanding its mobile reach globally with a handful of new mobile marketing partnerships.
The online company, which has been pursuing the emerging space, has formed strategic mobile advertising partnerships with Maxis Communications Berhad in Malaysia and Idea Cellular Limited in India. Through these partnerships, the two mobile operators will carry a variety of graphical advertisements sold and served by Yahoo.
These new partnerships grow the online giant’s global reach and come in time for the release of the new iPhone by Apple, a faster version of the Internet-enabled phone, in July.
Yahoo already has mobile display and advertising partnerships with AT&T, T-Mobile International and Vodafone UK.
In addition, Yahoo has formed OneSearch partnerships with mobile operators in Asia including Mahanagar Telephon Nigam Limited (MTNL, India), Hong Kong CSL Limited, Smart Communications Inc., Digital Mobile Phlis Inc. and Vibo Telecom Inc. Yahoo’s OneSearch is its latest mobile search portal that was developed to make searching better optimized for the mobile phone.
These new Asian partnerships come as Yahoo has released localized versions of Yahoo Go 3.0, its mobile homepage, for India, Australia and Southeast Asia, including a local language version for Indonesia, and an English version of Yahoo OneSearch with voice that recognizes regional accents.
Yahoo has also released new mobile widgets for the Asia Pacific region including Yahoo Cricket, Yahoo Answers and Yahoo India Movies, as well as an MTV Asia mobile widget.
