BMG Entertainment, New York, began selling downloadable music yesterday. The debut of the commercial downloading program features more than 100 singles and albums from BMG artists, including Christina Aguilera, Toni Braxton, Jennifer Day, Eve 6 and Santana. BMG, a unit of Bertlesmann AG, plans to make 2,500 albums and singles available through the holiday season.
Initially music will be available through Lycos, Waltham, MA. BMG, which announced the plan in April, said it plans to add other affiliates in the near future. Pricing for digital downloads will be $1.98 to $3.49 for singles, $9.98 to $14.98 for single CDs, and $11.98 to $20.98 for double CDs.
The company also said it would offer an integrated shopping cart developed by Digital World Services, New York. The feature will allow customers to enter payment for both physical and digital products within the integrated cart.
