Cyberian Continues Marketing Effort With Times Square Messages

Cyberian Outpost Inc., an Internet-only retailer of computer products and peripherals, struck an agreement with Discover Financial Services' Discover Card that will allow the online technology company to broadcast messages through Jan. 14 on the top sign now occupied at Discover at One Times Square, New York.

Cyberian, Kent, CT, will post branding messages atop the Times Square sign twice an hour through Jan. 14. The company began posting messages on the sign in December, timed to coincide with the New Year's holiday. Terms of the deal with Discover, the credit card unit of securities firm Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co., New York, were not disclosed.

The Times Square messages continue Cyberian's recent aggressive branding push, the most high-profile portion of which is a series of nationally televised ad spots designed to catch viewers' attention with visions of live gerbils being fired into a stationary target and a marching band being attacked by a pack of vicious wolves.

The online computer firm, which markets its products through a site located at www.outpost.com, is among the merchants that are members of Discover ShopCenter, a shopping link service that offers special savings and promotions to Discover cardholders. Outpost.com has direct links from ShopCenter and co-branded banners elsewhere on the Web.
