Microsoft Corp. will divide its platforms and services division (PSD) into two groups called Windows/Windows Live and online services. Both of the new groups will report to CEO Steve Ballmer.
The reorganization comes after news that PSD president Kevin Johnson will leave the company to become CEO of Juniper Networks. Johnson starts his new position in September, according to Juniper.
Microsoft said that a senior level position will be created to head the company’s new online services group. The company said it plans to conduct an internal and external search for possible candidates. Until then, SVP Satya Nadella will oversee the company’s search, MSN and ad platform engineering efforts. SVP Brian McAndrews will remain as head of the advertiser and publisher solutions group.
The new Windows/Windows Live group will be overseen by SVPs Steven Sinofsky, Jon DeVaan and Bill Veghte.
When contacted, Microsoft directed inquires to its press release. In a statement, Ballmer said, “Kevin has built a supremely talented organization and laid the foundation for the future success of Windows and our online services business. This new structure will give us more agility and focus in two very competitive arenas.”
