Netscape Navigator, the 13-year-old Web browser that was the first commercial enterprise of its kind, will cease to receive technical and developmental support from parent company AOL after February 1. AOL said that the near-defunct browser does not support AOL’s plan to grow its advertising business. Consumers will still be able to download and use the Netscape browser, and a separate Netscape Web portal will continue to operate.
