A new app called “Death Clock” is making waves with its bold claim of predicting when users will die. The app, developed by Brent Franson, uses artificial intelligence trained on over 1,200 life expectancy studies to generate its estimates. Users begin by answering a questionnaire that starts with basic information like age and gender.
The app then delves into more personal details such as family history, mental health, and chronic conditions. Based on the responses, Death Clock provides a predicted date of death.
Death Clock features explained
For example, the app predicted that one user would die on February 28, 2074, at the age of 90. However, it also suggested that adopting better habits could potentially extend their life to 103 years old. Users can access additional features by paying an annual subscription fee of $40.
This includes personalized suggestions for lifestyle changes and a countdown clock displaying the estimated time left until their predicted death date. Financial planner Ryan Zabrowski pointed out the practical implications of such technology, stating, “Accurate mortality estimates could help elderly people and retirees manage their finances more effectively, preventing the anxiety of outliving their money.
The app also encourages users to share their predicted death date online, serving as both a conversation starter and a motivator for making healthier life choices. While Death Clock has generated interest for its unique approach, it ultimately aims to inspire people to lead longer, healthier lives by combining a touch of morbid curiosity with practical advice.
