Andrew Dimitriou has joined creative agency Dept as its new global chief client and growth officer. He started in the role on September 9. Dimitriou will oversee Dept’s global growth, marketing, and client services teams, which total around 500 people worldwide.

He will report directly to global CEO Dimi Albers. In this newly created position, Dimitriou is responsible for scaling Dept’s business to match its significant growth in recent years and set the stage for future expansion. Over the past three years, Dept has seen a 230% increase in revenue, largely driven by its AI services.

We need to put together client engagement programs and manage them as a company of 4,500 people, ensuring we’re consistently providing the Dept value of service across all our clients,” Dimitriou said. His role involves implementing systems to improve client engagement and making sure the sales and marketing teams are well-prepared for the next phase of growth.

On the sales and marketing side, he aims to raise Dept’s profile and capabilities to drive new business opportunities. Dimitriou does not plan to make major changes to the existing business model, saying he admires the current structure. “The great exists here, so how do we highlight it, magnify it and operationalize it?” he said.

Dimitriou most recently served as VML’s EMEA CEO and was set to take on the global chief business officer title in January 2024. His 25-year career includes senior roles at WPP and Young & Rubicam. While moving from creative agencies to the media and technology space, Dimitriou stresses that his core job remains solving clients’ business challenges.

With Dept’s digital-first and AI-enabled capabilities, he feels he is better positioned to tackle future problems. There is massive change happening across the industry, and you have to pinpoint where the next 25 years of your career will lead,” Dimitriou said, referring to the fast pace of AI advancements.
