In celebration of Social Media Day, companies of every ilk have taken to social networks to spread some social media love. Mostly. Some–who don’t quite get the “social” aspect of social media–are in full-on promotion mode.
Created by Mashable five years ago to “recognize the digital revolution,” today Social Media Day is embraced online and off by companies and individual enamored by social. From social campaigns and promotions to live events, these fans are evangelizing one of the today greatest tools, for, well, evangelizing the brands and products we love (and so much more, of course–but we’re talking marketing here). The buzz around the day is in full swing, rolling across time zones as the business day gets going across the globe. In a few cases companies are celebrating their social media teams. Some companies are using the day to open conversations with customers; others are posting Social Media Day promotions. Unfortunately, one company’s over-to-top efforts actually detracts from its supposed celebratory presence–and the efforts of others by cluttering the #smday page.
How are you celebrating?
