The esteemed music festival, Coachella, teamed up with COUR Design to provide a unique stage ambiance for British artist Suki Waterhouse’s performance. This globally recognized design firm accepted the challenge to enhance the stage atmosphere through an artist-focused approach, cutting-edge technology, and creative innovation that truly signified the innovative spirit of Coachella.
Convention-breaking British model and singer-songwriter, Suki Waterhouse, collaborated with COUR Design to transform her magical forest vision into reality on the live stage. The design process aimed to create an immersive concert experience that went beyond the traditional norms of a performance, connecting the artist and the audience on a deeper emotional level.
The design process was initiated in February and was deeply influenced by Waterhouse’s impending motherhood with her partner, Robert Pattinson. The team ingeniously integrated elements from Universal Studios’ famous E.T. ride into the overall design for a whimsical and comforting environment for both Waterhouse’s growing family and her professional career.
Every aspect of the conceptual design was handpicked to resemble this popular theme park ride, perfectly embodying Pattinson and Waterhouse’s unique style and vision.
Creating a magical forest stage for Suki Waterhouse
The whole process stirred deep discussions on comfort, aesthetics, parenting, and personal values, resulting in a space that mirrored their shared love for whimsical wonder and comfort.
One of the primary challenges faced was the optimal integration of real-world physical elements with virtual reality on the Coachella stage. The art director meticulously chose diverse flora and merged them with digital projections to create a stunning backdrop for the performances. The team’s dedicated effort resulted in a mesmerizing blend of beauty, realism, and technology on stage.
The hyper-realistic 3D rendering of chosen botanic elements by COUR Design created an immersive representation of the magical forest atmosphere on stage. Each element, ranging from towering trees to the soft moss, was crafted with the end aim of enhancing the virtual interaction experience for the audience.
Despite preliminary hurdles, the physical set perfectly mirrored its 3D designs during rehearsals, with the integration of natural elements, lighting, and advanced technology all coming together to materialize Waterhouse’s envisioned magical forest on stage. The creative blend of music, acoustics, and seamless scene transitions took attendees on a breath-taking journey into a fantastical woodland wonderland.
