E-mail marketing services provider Constant Contact acquired NutshellMail, a social media monitoring firm, May 24 for an undisclosed sum.
Constant Contact bought NutshellMail to expand its social media capabilities. The ESP, which has about 350,000 small business clients, has social media tools in its e-mail platform, including an e-mail address capture app for Facebook. NutshellMail creates tools to measure social media marketing.
“Our customers wanted to know how to make the most out of social media marketing, and they wanted to measure the impact of what they are doing,” said Gail Goodman, CEO of Waltham, MA-based Constant Contact.
NutshellMail’s tools allow marketers to aggregate messages and activities from their social networking pages, including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and MySpace, via e-mail. Marketers can customize their NutshellMail profile for the content and search terms they want to monitor, and set the frequency.
The NutshellMail brand will keep its name, and its employees will move to an office in Palo Alto, CA, establishing Constant Contact’s first West Coast office.
Goodman said Constant Contact will hire additional employees for the office.
Constant Contact plans to add more social media marketing tools in the coming months.
