Dow Jones sues Cision for halted payments

Dow Jones has initiated a lawsuit against Cision over an alleged violation of their contractual agreement within the first year of a multi-year partnership. It is alleged that Cision’s abrupt decision to halt payments has breached the terms of their agreement, leading Dow Jones to take legal action in a bid to rectify the situation. This unexpected move has evoked discontent and concern among vested parties, prompting them to seek legal redress.

In defense, Dow Jones insists that the contract does not permit any stoppage of payments or alterations to its terms. It is argued that no provisions exist within the contract for such adjustments, suggesting any sudden cessation of payments or changes would outrightly breach the terms initially agreed upon. With this stance, Dow Jones expressly opposes any claims of having the authority to modify the payment schedules or contractual obligations.

The original contract, signed in September 2023, named Cision as the sole distributor of Dow Jones content to PR and Corporate communication professionals.

In exchange, yearly payments amounting to $173,624,000 were to be made over eight years. However, Cision’s sudden halt in payments has, according to Dow Jones, justified their legal pursuit of damages. The specific amount for damages has not been established, but it is likely to match the total annual fees agreed upon for the contract’s duration.

In the face of this lawsuit, Cision has yet to release any public statements or comments. As proceedings continue, Cision’s next course of action remains a mystery. Their silence, whether strategic or a result of internal deliberations, has fueled speculation and uncertainty. The only clear fact, for now, is that Cision is not yet ready to comment publicly on the issue.
