Recent research on SEO indicates that Google might be using factors such as a business’s menu items and customer traffic during peak hours to affect its local ranking. Quality of service, popularity, and user-generated reviews also seem to play a crucial role. This suggests that businesses need to ensure their details are accurately provided on online platforms.

Google, however, remains silent about these allegations and the public is eagerly awaiting a statement. It’s safe to say that industry experts are keeping an eye on Google’s response to these potential damaging claims.

The author of the study, Tomina, found data suggesting signals like review count and ratings can significantly affect a listing’s rank on platforms like Google Maps and Google Search local pack. This implies Google’s algorithms might prioritize user-generated content. Despite the clear belief in the role of positive reviews, it’s also worth noting that negative reviews can cause businesses to drop substantially in listings.

The study suggests restaurants might enhance Google rankings by including menu-item details in their Google Business Profile.

Influencing local rankings with business details

A local restaurant, for example, was able to improve its Google ranking significantly by adding “caesar salad” to its menu. It was also noticed that the restaurant’s footfall increased after this update.

High customer traffic during Google’s peak hours could lead to higher rankings. This was observed in the case of local Google rankings with a surge when [caesar salad near me] was searched during peak business hours. The results advise businesses to synchronize their operations with peak digital traffic hours. Businesses are also urged to ensure they are listed as ‘open’ during these periods for improved visibility.

Tomina’s report recommends that businesses increase their Google rankings by adding menu details to their Google Business Profile, integrate customer reviews into their websites, and increase customer activity during peak hours. Additional suggestions include adding high-quality photos, updating contact information, including local keywords in their SEO strategy, and engaging in community sponsorships.
