Google has announced the termination of certain features in Google Business Profiles, including chat and call history, which may require businesses to modify their communication strategies. The absence of these features could notably impact businesses that frequently utilize them, calling for the need to adopt alternative methods for tracking comprehensive customer communication histories.

Alerting all users, Google has declared that from July 31, initiating new chats via its Business Profile feature will be inhibited, and all active chats will go inactive. Both businesses and clients are urged to seek other modes of interaction owing to the discontinuation of the chat feature.

Business card is also getting shuffled as the call history associated with Google Business Profiles will be removed at the end of July. Consequently, it is advised to make records of any essential information promptly, and to explore alternative methods for tracking these interactions.

Customers wanting to start new chats using Google Maps or Google Search through a Google Business Profile post-July 31, 2024 will find the chat button non-functional.

Adjusting business communication after Google’s feature termination

However, all chat threads started prior to this date will remain accessible until the end of July 2024, post which they will be unavailable. This change could potentially affect client-business communication through Google platforms.

In line with these changes, Google will also erase all call logs connected to Google Business Profiles while recommending businesses download their past call data to preserve their records. Business owners are encouraged to download their previous call data before this removal to avoid the potential loss of crucial information.

The removal of these features could significantly affect businesses, hence they are advised to back up and preserve their chat and call records timeously. It is suggested that businesses update their customer databases and CRM software even in the absence of these vital communication features. Prompt actions might prevent potential issues, ensuring smooth operation and possibly providing an opportunity to review and enhance businesses’ communication strategies.
