Google updates Pixel 4a for battery performance

The Google Pixel 4a is getting a new software update that will change how the battery works. The update will start on January 8, 2025. It is still based on Android 13.

The update will add new features to manage the battery. This should make the battery more stable. But some users may see that their battery does not last as long between charges.

The phone may also charge slower. And the battery level shown on the screen may change. Not all Pixel 4a phones will have these changes.

Google says all Pixel 4a phones will get the update. And they can still be used normally. But the Pixel 4a 5G model will not be affected.

Battery update impacts Pixel 4a users

If the update makes the battery capacity smaller, Google will give some Pixel 4a owners a free new battery. To see if you can get this, you can check online.

You can also go to repair shops in some countries to get the new battery. In the U.S., you can mail in your phone for repair. But Google only has a limited number of batteries.

So it is first come, first served. Phones with other damage may not get a free battery. This includes water damage or cracks.

If the phone is out of warranty, you may have to pay to fix other problems before getting the battery. If you cannot get a new battery, Google will give you $50 or a $100 discount for a new Pixel phone. You have until January 8, 2026 to sign up for one of these options.

The Pixel 4a Battery Performance Program will last until January 8, 2026. For more details, Pixel 4a owners should read what Google has posted about the program.
