Hachette Filipacchi UK has acquired UK-based entertainment news Web site DigitalSpy.co.uk.
There will be no changes to Digital Spy’s editorial or management teams. The financial aspects of the acquisition were not disclosed.
“With the acquisition of Digital Spy we will accelerate the growth of our digital activities in the UK,” said Didier Quillot, chairman and CEO of Lagardere Active, in a statement. “Digital Spy will also offer valuable expertise to our websites around the world. This acquisition contributes to our 2008 external growth strategy to focus on markets outside the US and France. It will enable us to reinforce our position in our core markets, which include entertainment, and unlock valuable synergies within the group.”
Digital Spy claims to be the fourth largest entertainment news site in the UK, with 2.1 million unique users visiting its main entertainment news site in January 2008. The site’s Forum Network had 3.1 million users over the same time period.
Hachette Filipacchi UK is a subsidiary of global media company Largardere Active. It owns publications Elle, Red, Psychologies, All About Soap and Inside Soap. It also owns Web sites Elleuk.com and Sugarscape.com.
