With Thanksgiving over, it is officially the holiday shopping season, and retailers know that this is going to be a tough one. Most retailers make their money in the fourth quarter,
but with the recession now official, consumers are tightening their
purse strings and being more careful about their holiday purchases.
Now is a good time to send the e-mail offers or get any last minute e-mail plans in place. But how do you get noticed when all retailers are filling up the inbox? Retailers such as The Gap, See’s Candies and Home Depot are tapping into consumer’s desires for coupons, giveaways, limited time sales and unique offers to get attention.
The Gap is sending e-mails offering customized holiday songs from artists such as Flo Rida and Trey Songz, a one-of-a-kind offer. Along with the songs, the e-mails include tools to create wish lists. The e-mail also has a coupon with a bar code designed to be passed along to friends and family, as part of a viral e-mail campaign.
See’s Candies has been sending some sweet e-mails offering various kinds of holiday gift ideas, beginning at just $14. The e-mail highlights an array of offers for large candy gift baskets, but also suggests that the candy can be purchased for a stocking stuffer.
Home Depot sent out e-mails alerting customers to special sales on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
With a little incentive, consumers may still be looking to buy in these tight holiday times.
