Wildly popular photo-sharing app Instagram has experienced rapid and steady growth since Facebook acquired the company for an astounding $1 billion in 2012. Instagram had just 13 employees at the time.
However, just yesterday, Instagram announced that it has reached some 300 million active users on its platform; that’s double what Instagram had last fall, and 16 million more than Twitter’s reported 284 million active users.
Instagram’s astronomical growth speaks to the emerging market for video and other visuals that optimize sight, sound, and motion on social media; it’s a paradigm shift that marketers may want to consider when strategizing for the New Year.
@instagram now has more than 300 million active users. Not the new kid on the block anymore! #SocialMedia

Today, Instagram passed 300 million users. This means you can now go online and find pictures of over 300 million bathrooms.

Instagram’s rapid growth is far more important to note than the fact that it is as big as Twitter, @sfiegerman adeptly points out.

In light of Instagram success, its even more astounding how Twitter has not made the necessary changes to get more users to post more images
