India’s job market has witnessed a spike in the demand for skilled entry-level digital marketers, despite a slowdown in other job roles for freshers, a report by Kraftshala claimed. The job platform highlighted a steady increase in entry-level hiring in 2024, driven by agencies and large brands actively seeking skilled professionals. Agencies accounted for 60 percent of marketing roles, with Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi emerging as dominant hiring hubs, comprising 67 percent of the hiring.

Additionally, cities like Pune, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Chennai, and Kolkata are also making significant strides in the digital marketing landscape. Bengaluru remained the top choice for competitive compensation, with 28 percent of roles in the city offering higher CTCs. Despite their smaller market size, cities like Chennai and Noida also offered premium compensation for niche skills.

The report noted a trend in 2024 workplaces where 93 percent of the roles were either in-office or hybrid, with only 7 percent being fully remote.

Employers emphasized collaboration and on-the-ground problem-solving.

Fluency in English remained a significant factor for success, with over 80 percent of marketing roles requiring a certain level of fluency in the language. Recruiters are shifting their focus away from traditional hiring processes like aptitude and psychometric tests, instead prioritizing tasks that gauge problem-solving abilities and encourage candidates to apply themselves. “Recruiters are not just looking for candidates with certificates but those who can bring real value through their problem-solving abilities and technical knowledge.

There is a clear departure from traditional hiring practices. Employers are willing to pay premium salaries even for entry-level roles, provided the candidates can demonstrate their ability to think critically and adapt to emerging technologies,” said Varun Satia, Founder and CEO of Kraftshala. Overall, the report suggests a promising outlook for entry-level digital marketers in India, with growing opportunities for competitive compensation and a focus on practical skills and problem-solving abilities.
