India’s job market has witnessed a spike in the demand for skilled entry-level digital marketers despite a slowdown in other job roles for freshers, a report by Kraftshala claimed. The job platform highlighted a steady increase in entry-level hiring in 2024, driven by agencies and large brands actively seeking skilled professionals. Agencies accounted for 60 percent of marketing roles, with Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi emerging as dominant hiring hubs, accounting for 67 percent of the positions.
Interestingly, cities like Pune, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Chennai, and Kolkata are also growing in the digital marketing landscape, the report added. According to Kraftshala, Bengaluru remained the top choice for competitive compensation, with 28 percent of roles in the city offering higher CTCs. Cities like Chennai and Noida also offered premium compensation for niche skills.
Digital marketing job demand increases
The report also noted that 93 percent of the roles floated in 2024 were either in-office or hybrid, while only 7 percent were fully remote, emphasizing a preference for collaboration and on-the-ground problem-solving. Fluency in English remained a significant factor for success, with over 80 percent of marketing roles requiring a certain level of fluency in the language.
Recruiters are shifting their focus away from traditional hiring processes like aptitude and psychometric tests, instead prioritizing tasks that gauge problem-solving abilities and encourage candidates to apply themselves. “Recruiters are not just looking for candidates with certificates but those who can bring real value through their problem-solving abilities and technical knowledge. There is a clear departure from traditional hiring practices,” said Varun Satia, Founder and CEO of Kraftshala.
“Employers are willing to pay premium salaries even for entry-level roles, provided the candidates can demonstrate their ability to think critically and adapt to emerging technologies.”
In conclusion, the digital marketing job market in India is flourishing, with increased demand for skilled professionals and competitive compensation packages in key cities. Companies are prioritizing practical skills and problem-solving abilities over traditional hiring metrics, reflecting a dynamic shift in recruitment practices.
