Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Program Welcomes New Innovators

The acclaimed Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Program (LEEP) is greeting a new cohort of 33 pioneers. Operating from four national labs in the United States, these individuals originate from a diverse spectrum of startups, prepared to revolutionize industries with technological innovation and market disruption.

As part of the program, they’ll have the opportunity to harness cutting-edge research facilities and tap into an experienced network of mentors, including leading scientists and engineers. The focus of the program is on developing and scaling practical solutions to meet society’s pressing needs.

Impact of LEEP

Since its inception in 2015, LEEP has had a significant impact, birthing 153 startups within four years and generating over $2.73 billion in follow-up funding.

Additionally, the program has created more than 2,343 jobs and introduced advanced technologies to various American industries.

The Entrepreneurship Journey

The current group of entrepreneurs will be partnered with LEEP for two years to fast-track their startup technologies from labs to markets. This also presents an opportunity to refine their entrepreneurial skills and prepare for potential future roles in the energy and manufacturing sectors.

Geraldine Richmond, Under Secretary, has praised LEEP for its essential role in elevating diverse energy innovators across America and its input in transforming the USA’s clean energy landscape.

Entrepreneurs in Action

Several entrepreneurs, including Advait Holkar, Carla Pinzon, and Mert Akin, are making strides in towns like Berkeley, California. They are working on new methods for small molecule manufacturing, improving grid infrastructure for electric vehicles, and converting unconventional brines into viable sources, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Oak Ridge facility in Tennessee is hosting innovators like Adam Stevens, Jordan Cannon, and Vinit Chaudhary, who are reshoring metal casting using automation, enhancing the biodegradability of Poly-L-Lactic Acid, and developing advanced nonwoven materials for composites.

The promising work of these 33 innovators significantly augments the anticipation surrounding future advancements in clean energy and technology.
