Macy’s will launch a weeklong multichannel campaign next month that includes an environmental theme and charity shopping days.
The Turn Over a New Leaf campaign is designed to support, educate and inspire sustainability and eco-friendly practices in everyday life.
Beginning on April 20, customers making a $5 donation to the National Park Foundation at Macy’s stores or online at http://www.nationalparks.org/ will receive a shopping pass good for between 10% and 20% off many items at a special charity-shopping event on April 26 and 27. Customers will find a variety of eco-friendly merchandise at Macy’s from leading vendors such as Origins, Hush Puppies and DKNY.
“The National Park Foundation is proud to be chosen as the first charity in Macy’s history to be the sole beneficiary of a national charity shopping event,” said Vin Cipolla, president/CEO of the National Park Foundation, in a statement. “This is a truly innovative approach to corporate stewardship.”
A national online sweepstakes will be promoted on the Macy’s Web site. The sweepstakes grand prize is a new Ford Escape Hybrid car.
Other elements of the campaign include a free tree sapling for the first 100 customers in each store on Earth Day and a National Park Foundation eco-friendly activity and coloring book to the first 100 children in each store.
Macy’s will also sponsor the National Park Foundation Junior Ranger Essay Contest, which invites children age 9 to 11 to write an essay on “turning over a new leaf” for the environment and national parks. The grand prize winner will receive a trip for four to Everglades National Park in Florida and star in an electronic field trip broadcast live from the park that will be viewed by school children across the US.
