McDonald’s USA has announced a change in its marketing leadership. Tariq Hassan, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, has decided to step down from his role to focus on his family as his daughter prepares for college. Hassan will support the transition through most of the first quarter.

He is praised for his passion, vision, and awareness of global changes which have driven the business forward. Under his leadership, McDonald’s has built deeper connections with customers, delivered award-winning campaigns, and introduced initiatives like adult Happy Meals and food hacks. His tenure also marked the transformation of McDonald’s into a data-driven, digital business.

Marketing leadership transition at McDonald’s USA

Alyssa Buetikofer, currently the Chief Marketing Officer of McDonald’s Canada, will step into the role of Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer of McDonald’s USA on February 15. Buetikofer has been with McDonald’s since 2011 and has held roles across three geographies and five departments.

During her leadership as CMO in Canada, Buetikofer launched MyMcDonald’s Rewards and expanded the menu with items like the McCrispy and Chicken Big Mac. Her successful tenure also included the launch of the Famous Orders platform in the US, which boosted social engagement and business results. Buetikofer is seen as a strong partner for Owner/Operators and is respected for her thoughtful communication and leadership.

Her return to the US Marketing team is highly anticipated as the company continues to evolve its marketing strategy. Joe Erlinger, President of McDonald’s USA, expressed his gratitude towards Tariq Hassan for his contributions and welcomed Alyssa Buetikofer back to the US team.
