Relationship marketing agency Merkle has hired Mark Weninger as its first chief creative officer. He is overseeing all creative from the company’s seven offices and reports to co-presidents Tim Berry and Patrick Hennessy.
Weninger joins the Columbia, MD-based agency from OgilvyOne Worldwide, where he served as chief creative officer in its Minneapolis office.
At Merkle, Weninger is working with clients such as RBS Citizen, a subsidiary of Royal Bank of Scotland, DirectTV, PNC Bank and nonprofit Susan G. Komen Foundation.
He could not disclose his official start date at Merkle because of overlapping commitments between his current and former positions. Weninger said his hire was effective within the past few months.
“As the lines between Merkle’s strengths — data, technology and analytics — have blurred, walls have come down between how best to manage customers and outreach,” he said. “Merkle executives saw an opportunity to take the agency’s legacy strengths forward into a broader communications footprint which includes creative executions.”
