NBC Universal has selected social media firm Appssavvy to exclusively run the advertising sales team for the NBC News iCue social media application launching to Facebook this month.
The iCue — an acronym for “immerse, connect, understand and excel” — was designed by the educational department of NBC News to be a learning center. Through the application, Facebook users can access historical videos from the NBC News Archives, as well as play games about US history, government and politics, as well as English language and composition.
The move “really signifies that the application space is not only here to stay, but it is evolving and brands are participating,” said Chris Cunningham, CEO/founder of Appssavvy. “We’re seeing a bit of a change that the concept of creating your own destination and hoping that people show up there is shifting to building tools on a social site to reach people where they already are.”
