E-mail list developer and manager NetCreations Inc. announced last week that it has been selected to manage online marketing services firm WebPromote’s 213,332-name e-mail list.
The deal boosts NetCreations’ Postmaster Direct Response database from 750,000 to 894,445 unique e-mail addresses. A merge/purge revealed about 50,000 duplicate addresses.
The WebPromote list offers e-mail addresses of Internet users who have signed up to receive information about business, employment, computing, entertainment, health, travel and other topics. WebPromote, Chicago, has been collecting e-mail addresses for about a year and until now has managed its list in-house. WebPromote will continue to offer its list through its own sales force.
NetCreations, New York, will store WebPromote’s e-mail addresses, provide e-mail delivery and merge/purge services and offer the list for rent at www.postmasterdirect.com.
According to NetCreations, WebPromote’s list initially will rent for 15 cents per name including distribution and merge/purge. Also under the agreement, WebPromote will broker NetCreations’ lists.
NetCreations’ president Rosalind Resnick said the lists are a natural fit because they are both “opt-in,” letting consumers get mail only on topics they choose.
“Our goal is to build the largest opt-in database on the Internet,” said Resnick. “One of the things that has always been difficult for us is that there are sites out there with lists of a million names but they’re not opt-in. With WebPromote, we were able to get 213,000 new names right off the bat.”
WebPromote is an Internet promotional services company whose clients include Microsoft, The Washington Post, The American Lung Association and Hewlett-Packard.
Resnick said NetCreations’s list selects include 3,000 topical categories.
