eBay last week launched in an interesting program to promote its PayPal online payment option.
The online auction site launched a beta version of “eBay bucks” which allows some users to earn a 2 percent reward for certain items they purchase via PayPal. The reward comes in the form of a gift certificate, which can be sued to purchase an item on eBay within 30 days.
An eBay executive, quoted in an Associated Press article, said the program is by invitation only; eBay is randomly inviting users to participate in it.
PayPal, a subsidiary of eBay, is the preferred payment option of the ecommerce company. It will be interesting to see if this promotion converts many non-PayPal users to use the payment service.
