Beginning next Thursday, hordes of designers, models and fashionistas will descend upon New York for Fashion Week, and Pinterest wants to be the go-to social media platform for the event.
Today, Pinterest announced the creation of a special content hub (http://pinterest.com/fashionweek) for Fashion Week that will host exclusive images, videos and other content from its partners in the fashion industry. These include inspiration and idea boards from designers such as Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, and Kate Spade, with content from WWD, Lucky Magazine and Man Repeller.
While plenty of other sites will be aggregating live content from Fashion Week, Pinterest says its content will be less focused on real time updates. Speaking to Mashable, Pinterest’s head of community marketing, Katie Garlinghouse said, “It’s less about the real-time photos of the event, and more around the backstory of the event,” She added, “For Kate Spade, we’ll see what inspired the collection, versus actual [live] images of the collection.”
While you still won’t be able to buy the things you see on these aggregated boards on Pinterest, the goal is to get more eyeballs here than other social media platforms. And with its highly visual content, and massive female audience, Pinterest seems tailor made for this kind of event.
