Telus Marketing, a Canadian teleservices firm, laid off 75 telemarketers this week in its Calgary call center. The company reportedly has a lull in its business caused by a decrease in client contracts. The marketers will be laid off until there is a demand for additional staff.
Initially 100 telecenter agents were laid off, said one source in the company, but 25 were hired back when a new contract came in.
Telus will maintain a staff of 325 agents to service current contracts. According to published reports Telus is facing strong competition from U.S. companies.
Telus officials would not return calls placed to their offices.
