Valassis has promoted Ron Goolsby to COO and Suzie Brown to EVP of sales and marketing, effective January 1, 2012.
The Livonia, Mich.-based marketing-services company said earlier this week that Alan Schultz will retire as president and CEO at the end of this year. Rob Mason, Valassis’ EVP of sales and marketing, will replace him.
Goolsby currently serves as the company’s EVP of manufacturing and client services. He previously worked as VP of the Anderson Printing Division and GM of Valassis Canada. The COO position is new at Valassis.
Goolsby will have six direct reports, with the leaders of client services, manufacturing, business and technology, strategic sourcing, corporate process improvement and the company’s Mexican division reporting to him, he said. His responsibilities will include overseeing the day-to-day operations of the company and producing
Brown, who will succeed Mason as EVP of sales and marketing, currently serves as Valassis’ CMO. She previously worked as SVP for sales learning and development at the company and CEO of Valassis property Save.com.
Valassis will eliminate the CMO position “for the time being,” she said. Two senior vice presidents of marketing will report to her, as will the company’s sales operations. Brown will report to Mason.
“From an organizational perspective, what we are trying to achieve is a closer collaboration between sales and marketing,” she said.
