VH1 delivers pop culture debate in real-time

VH1 is taking the pop culture programming it knows so well and delivering it via a multichannel and interactive effort that premieres tonight and lets viewers of the new program The Great Debate participate through real-time text messaging at various nightlife locations in the US and via Viacom’s HD screen in Times Square as well as via Twitter and Facebook.

The Great Debate features irreverent discussions about such pop culture “arguments” as Star Wars vs. Star Trek and Ginger vs. Mary Ann.

The interactive platform connecting The Great Debate, social networks and the out-of-home screens, is provided by LocaModa. The digital out-of-home media locations in 300 nightspots is part of Zoom Media & Marketing’s network.

This combination of mobile and social programming across broadcast and out-of-home channels is an industry first,” said Dan Levi, Zoom’s SVP of digital media and strategic partnerships, in a statement. “It is a terrific example of integrating multiple media platforms in a way that engages consumers both in and out of their homes, while creating significant awareness and buzz.”
