The most interesting trend I’m seeing emerge for 2025 is a shift towards more natural, imperfect design. It’s like stepping back from the slick, perfection of AI, and a step beyond the concept of authenticity (that will soon be served up by chatbots). I’m sensing a need to reconnect with the real world, with things that AI can’t do, that are a little bit rough around the edges.

You can see it in the colors and textures that have become popular in interior design—people want natural materials, organic cotton, handcrafted ceramics close to them, in their homes. It’s a reaction to the global challenges we’re facing, a way of bringing nature indoors and appreciating its forms and imperfections.

I think this trend will translate to web design in a big way next year. We’ll see more organic shapes, textures, and colors, and a move away from the polished professional look that’s been so dominant recently. I’d be willing to bet that within the next 12 months we’ll be celebrating websites that feel human, personal, and take their inspiration from the natural world.

The color palette is all about nature, with lots of greens, browns, and earthy tones. The textures are rich and varied, including HD imagery, but also grainy photos and illustrations that remind you of woodcuts. And the layout leans towards asymmetry. It has a free-flowing feel, making me think of a wildflower garden.

Web design is about more than just aesthetics; it’s about sensing a mood, dipping into a sensibility and that’s what this trend is all about. Digital representations can feel exclusionary and alienating (like those too perfect stock photos). This trend is all about bending the form to be more human, more inclusive and participatory.

The world is increasingly permeated by technology; I think this trend offers a sense of balance. It’s a way of bringing a bit of the natural world into our digital lives, and balancing the inherent messiness of being human within a medium that naturally seeks to eradicate the non-perfect.

I would have to say “Simplicity.” With so many different devices out there, mobile, tablets, desktops, laptops, and so many different screen resolutions, there is nothing worse than having a website that’s not compatible with many of these devices.

As a rule of thumb, you have exactly 3 to 5 seconds for your audience to decide if they’re going to stay on your website or not. Less is more plays a great role here. Keep websites simple and clean on the homepages with great calls to action. That way, it will catch a user’s attention quickly and get them directly to other pages if they want more detail. I have done many audits, and once we redo some of my clients’ websites, they have a much higher conversion rate after making the websites more simplistic and clean.

Furthermore, the text on many websites is increasingly bot-generated—less helpful and filled with overly “bespoke” language. In the coming year, websites that provide straightforward, fast answers will stand out, as will platforms—e-commerce or otherwise—that offer direct support from real people.
