To celebrate the upcoming 5th anniversary of its app store on July 10th, Apple is putting up 10 popular iOS apps for free.
It isn’t often that Apple starts giving out stuff for free, so when The Verge noticed that the App Store was indeed putting up several iOS app titles for free download instead of their usual prices, ranging from $0.99 to $19.99, the tech blogs were buzzing with delight.
“It’s been a remarkably prolific five years for the App Store,” the company announced on its website. “To celebrate, we’re giving everyone five landmark games and five groundbreaking apps for a limited time.” And they’re popular, pricey titles too, scroll below for the complete list of free apps that are being offered.
It’s a smart move by Apple, especially as its widely being reported that Android apps are set to overtake iOS apps later this year. This little bit of promotion will serve to remind the industry of their trailblazing status when it comes to mobiles and tablets.
To further remind people of its legacy, the company also posted an interactive timeline highlighting the major milestones in the five years since the App Store first launched.
