Who it is: Julie Dexter Berg, appointed CMO of Leap Wireless, which markets the Cricket Wireless service  

What’s her role:  Dexter Berg is charged with completing Leap’s transition to position the company to successfully compete in the increasingly cutthroat wireless industry.

Where was she prior: Berg was most recently managing partner of Brandmaking LLC.  She previously served as CMO of Supervalu and MediaOne (now Comcast).

Why was she appointed: “We are confident that her strong background in marketing strategy, brand development, and operational experience will help us continue to successfully develop and expand the Cricket brand,” says CEO Doug Hutcheson.

Who it is: John Driver, appointed CMO of PacketVideo, a solutions provider for mobile media applications

What’s his role: He will lead marketing strategy and direct the company’s next phase of growth, focused on multiplatform media solutions.

Where was he prior: Driver was cofounder and CEO of Joynin, led global field marketing at Serena, and led the enterprise and midmarket strategy teams at Sun Microsystems.

Why was he appointed: “John brings a wealth of experience and results from the B2B enterprise technology space. He has a strong track record of successfully entering new markets and growing market share in existing ones,” says CEO Mark Tapling.

Who it is: Kristy Stromberg, named SVP of marketing at Simply Hired, an internet executive search platform that powers listings for LinkedIn and others 

What’s her role: Stromberg is responsible for all aspects of marketing strategy and execution. 

Where was she prior: She was most recently director of marketing at Inuit and has held marketing leadership positions at Yahoo! and Compaq.  

Why was she appointed: “Her track record includes major successes for the Valley’s elite companies—whether she is growing product lines, transforming brands, or launching products,” says president and CEO James Beriker.

Who it is: Betsy Holloway, appointed CMO of Samford University in Birmingham, AL

What’s her role: Holloway will participate in leadership meetings across campus and will be responsible for “organizing and pushing” the Samford brand.

Where was she prior: A Samford faculty member for the past 11 years, she most recently held the Dwight Moody Beeson Chair of Business as a professor of marketing in the University’s Brock School of Business.

Why was she appointed: “Dr. Holloway brings a unique blend of corporate marketing and academic experience to this important new role that helps us to think strategically in all of our decisions,” says university president Andrew Westmoreland.

Who it is: Tim Leberecht, named CMO of NBBJ, a global architecture and design firm

What’s his role: He will direct NBBJ’s worldwide marketing, business development, and communications.

Where was he prior: Leberecht was most recent director of marketing at Frog Design.

Why was he appointed: “With his experience positioning Frog Design at the forefront of design innovation, and his continuing mission for brands to provide value, he’s exactly the person we were looking for as our first-ever chief marketing officer,” says managing partner Scott Wyatt.
