Netscape Communications Corp. and Excite Inc. announced a partnership last week that they expect will help Netscape in its push to become a Web portal and bring in millions of online ad dollars for both companies.
As part of the deal, Excite, Redwood City, CA, will help Netscape, Mountain View, CA, build a search engine that will run on the NetCenter Web site at www.netcenter.com with links to Excite. The aim is to herd people to www.excite.com and give the search firm the potential to strike ad deals. The companies will share ad revenue from co-branded pages.
