Fandango, the online movie ticket service provider, launched an iPad app on December 21. The app is designed to deliver movie content that will help consumers make more informed ticket-buying decisions.
“So many times there’s a movie that you’re wondering about and you have to decide if it’s worth your 12 bucks to go out and see it,” said Harry Medved, head of PR at Fandango. “Before the movie opens, there’s not a lot available aside from critic reviews. Apart from that, moviegoers are a little bit stuck. And we all know critics and audiences don’t agree.”
The app will offer the following features:
- “The Pulse,” a visual representation of the company’s hottest ticket sellers, viewable in both list and map formats.
- Movie reviews from professional critics and film fans alike, plus movie-related tweets, all on one large multi touch screen.
- Map integration that knows a moviegoer’s location and helps him find titles, theaters, showtimes and tickets.
- Expanded video, photos, trailers, clips and exclusive interview features that take advantage of the large, high-resolution HD display.
The Pulse allows consumers to view a real-time feed of currently-released movies’ commercial success across a map of the US.
“If you’re a savvy movie-goer,” Medved said, “you can look at The Pulse, then read reviews, read fan tweets, and you can determine whether or not to go see a movie. It’s mesmerizing as you watch The Pulse to see what tickets people are buying across the country. It’s particularly fun on a Thursday night or Friday morning.”
To date, Fandango has seen more than 10 million downloads of its apps on various mobile devices, including iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, Palm, and Windows Phone 7.
