Flipboard announced a promoted content component to its service offerings. This will join their video ads product that was launched last year.
Flipboard announced the launch sponsors (Levi’s and NARS Cosmetics) and launch date (February 1) for the initial campaign. Advertisers will have the option of promoting individual pieces of content from their websites or their Flipboards – many of which are repurposing of the original content on their sites- and their Flipboard magazines, which function like an account.
In its announcement, Flipboard pointed out that publishing brands could use the functionality to syndicate native advertisements they may already be running for their clients on their site.
Advertisers are pushed to promote their content to specific interest-based channels, which include sports, news, tech, business and culinary and food, among others.
Flipboard was founded in 2010 and has raised over $160 million in funding, according to Crunchbase.
