Google has released an update to its search results that enables brands and individuals to highlight their external social networks in a Google Profile.
This is far removed from the days when Google only highlighted its fledging Google+ and another sign that the search giant realizes that Facebook is the dominant social network.
Listed domains included Facebook, Twitter, G+, Instagram, Youtube, LinkedIn, and Myspace. It may limit the showing of non-verified profiles on platforms that have that functionality, such as Twitter.
The updates were announced alongside feature enhancements that allowed companies to more easily sell tickets and list events on Google.
The new functionality served as a step in the evolution of Google as it looks to allow users to do more than just find links and results on its site, something about which Facebook is likewise concerned. The company that can handle more end-to-end transactions will prove more valuable to users and to Wall Street.
